Centralized Cloud Management

• Unmanaged switches are basic plug-and-play devices that operate without any management interface.
• Easy managed switches (Agile Series) offer an affordable upgrade to cloud-managed solutions. They can be centrally managed via a web interface or the Omada app. This allows for remote monitoring and troubleshooting from anywhere. How often do you realize a network just needs a quick reboot to start working? With Omada, you can restart the network without rolling a truck.

Streamlined Setup and Operations

• While unmanaged switches are plug-and-play for instant connectivity, they lack further configuration options.
• Agile switches facilitate streamlined setup and simple configuration for additional features. When integrated with an Omada SDN Controller, they support Automatic Device Discovery, Batch Configuration, Batch Firmware Upgrading, and Unified Configuration. Some models also support Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP) with the Omada Cloud-Based Controller, enabling deployment without physical interaction.

Enhanced Network Control and Reliability

• Unmanaged switches simply forward data without intelligence, treating all traffic equally and offering no features to prevent network issues.
• Agile switches provide easy configuration functions for optimizing network performance and reliability. These include:

        ▪ VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network): Allows network segmentation (e.g., MTU VLAN, Port-Based VLAN, 802.1Q Tag VLAN) to enhance security and traffic isolation, which is not possible with unmanaged switches.

        ▪ QoS (Quality of Service): Enables prioritization of critical data traffic (like video streams for surveillance or voice calls) using features such as 802.1p DSCP Priority, Bandwidth Control, and Storm Control.

        ▪ Automatic Loop Prevention / Loopback Detection: Helps prevent network disruptions caused by accidental network loops, a common issue unmanaged switches cannot handle.

        ▪ IGMP Snooping: Optimizes multicast traffic, ensuring it is only sent to the ports where it is needed, reducing unnecessary network congestion.

        ▪ Other L2 Features: Include Flow Control, Link Aggregation (Static), Port Mirroring, and Cable Diagnostics for deeper network analysis and control.

Specialized Features for Specific Applications (e.g., Surveillance)

        Agile switches are tailored for surveillance networking. They offer:

        ▪ PoE Auto Recovery: Automatically reboots unresponsive PoE-powered devices like IP cameras or access points, ensuring continuous operation. This is a critical feature for maintaining up-time in surveillance systems.

        ▪ Extended PoE Transmission: Some models support up to 250m (820ft) PoE transmission under Extend Mode, though port speed is downgraded to 10 Mbps. This allows for more flexible placement of PoE devices than the standard 100m limit of unmanaged PoE switches

Access series switches provide more advanced features like Static Routing, DHCP Server, DHCP Relay, IP Interface, ACL, STP, LAG, SNMP, CLI, etc. If you need any features above, you should choose the Access series switches.

The Agile switches can be managed by Omada Controller. However, the easy smart switches can only be managed via web UI or Easy Smart Configuration Utility. Easy smart switches are not part of Omada SDN solution.
